๐ Feature: Hinckley Rail Terminal Update
Plans for the Hinckley National Rail Freight Interchange (HNRFI) have been rejected.
Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander has written to Blaby District Council to confirm the refusal after an examination by the Planning Inspectorate last year recommended to reject the plans.
Members of Blaby District Council, Hinckley and Bosworth Council and Leicestershire County Council have been concerned about the environmental and social impacts of the proposed multi-purpose freight interchange and distribution centre, southwest of Elmesthorpe.
The scheme would have meant increased disruption at the Narborough level crossing and increased highway safety risk in Sapcote. There were also safety concerns raised in respect of the M1 J21/ M69 J3 (Junction 15) and the lack of adequate modelling at this junction.
It has long been argued that the socio-economic and climate change benefits of the project would not outweigh the adverse impacts, and that neighbouring villages would suffer noise and light pollution.
You can read more about the proposals, the timeline and our objections on the Blaby District Council website.
